There is a Joy

The past few weeks I have been feeling such a sense of "overwhelmingness." I have really been feeling the urgency of the times in which we live. Knowing that the Lord is soon to come and knowing that I need to be ready along with my family. I see the signs all around me and one can't possibly deny the fact that the end is near. What are we doing to prepare? I've been really studying and praying and trying to do my utmost best. In reading inspired messages I see so clearly things that need altering in my own life. I am trying so hard. And in doing so, I was beginning to feel extremely overwhelmed, discouraged and depressed. I mean, really down. There was no light in the day and no joy in the journey. What was I doing wrong?! Today the clouds broke and the sun shone through so clearly to me. They did so through the inspiration of a Sister in Christ from Missouri. She gave me such beautiful insight into what I was doing-without even knowing the background of it at all! The only thing we shared was the experience of Motherhood and a love for the Savior. She knew nothing of my struggle, and yet she seemed to know everything. She sent me these words:
"When you find yourself feeling defeated, inadequate, fearful of the future, worried about how your children will turn out, etc. then we must resist self-pity, fear, doubt, worry. We must move forward and take the next baby step into the future. The Lord gives us the grace for the next step, if we are faithful with doing the next thing (dishes, dinner, disciplining our children, laundry) then the negative feelings will not have victory over us---just do the next thing. Look up the poem “Doe the Nexte Thynge” or “Do the Next Thing” This is a poem for the refrigerator as a gentle reminder that in faith and with a thankful heart I will do the next thing..."

Well, as you can imagine, these words were like balm to my soul. The Lord sent her with exactly the right words for me today. This hit the nail on the head. It was what I was feeling to the 'T'. I immediately looked up the Poem that she mentioned and found it to be such an inspiration as well.

A poem quoted by Elisabeth Elliot
Do The Next Thing
"At an old English parsonage down by the sea, there came in the twilight a message to me. Its quaint Saxon legend deeply engraven that, as it seems to me, teaching from heaven. And all through the hours the quiet words ring, like a low inspiration, 'Do the next thing.'
Many a questioning, many a fear, many a doubt hath its quieting here. Moment by moment, let down from heaven, time, opportunity, guidance are given. Fear not tomorrow, child of the King, trust that with Jesus, do the next thing.
Do it immediately, do it with prayer, do it reliantly, casting all care. Do it with reverence, tracing His hand, who placed it before thee with earnest command. Stayed on omnipotence, safe 'neath His wing, leave all resultings, do the next thing.
Looking to Jesus, ever serener, working or suffering be thy demeanor, in His dear presence, the rest of His calm, the light of His countenance, be thy psalm. Do the next thing."

Friends! The SON is shining once again. My eyes have been so opened today. I need to take one day, one moment at a time. I need to do my best in that moment. It may not always be perfect, but it will be my best. Instead of nit-picking at the smaller issues, (whatever they may be!) my focus needs to be the main goal of getting little characters ready for eternity. THIS is what Jesus is interested in. Yes, He is coming for a people who are following Him in everything, but His main interest is, are their hearts at one with Him? Do they love Him with all that they are and seek to follow Him best they can? This is the crux of the matter. It is where my focus must be. There are many hang-ups and pitfalls along the way that Satan would have us get caught up in. We can't go there! We must stay focused on the narrow way. Jesus and Eternal Life are just ahead! He is waiting for us! There IS a joy in the journey. There's a lot we can love along the way. There is much to enjoy. Let's not miss out on life's little joys that Jesus sends our way to remind us of His love. And, remember as I learned today-Do the Next thing. Be faithful in whatever our calling is and embrace it with all that we are. We are at a station in life right now. it may not be the station we'd prefer, but it's where we're at. It's up to us to choose to be happy. For further inspiration on that, read what a friend of mine, Janelle Gary has to say on that topic from a single woman's point of view! Very thought provoking and one of the other things that really spoke to my heart yesterday as I was pleading with the Lord for happiness!
I have really seen the Lord's faithfulness in my life this week and I wanted so much to share this experience here with you all! I have much to blog about, but so little time to do it in. Hopefully soon I can share with you about Hannah's new school program! We are super excited about it! Until next time, remember, there is a joy in the journey! The Lord wants us to be joyful and radiant Christians! So smile smile smile! :-D
