It's canning season.
And so often it's a hard time for the mom's of little's who really want to put up their garden harvest's but they have young one's who need something constructive to occupy their little hands and minds.
Before I began my canning process I whipped up a batch of this playdough for my youngest to play with. It was very easy to do, only taking a few minutes of my time. She even helped stir~ until it became too thick. ;)
I don't think I had ever made playdough for her to play with before. Maybe one other time? But it had been a very long time so she didn't remember. At any rate, she really had a lot of fun with it.
She helped to kneed it and pat it.
And then I set her up at the kitchen table with cookie cutters and rollers and she entertained herself for a very long time. Big sister even came and joined in the fun for a while. Meanwhile. I got a big batch of green beans put up.
The recipe is as follows:
1 c. water
1 c. flour
1/3 c. salt
2 t. cream of tarter
1 T. oil
food coloring (about 6-8 drops)
Mix together in a saucepan and then cook on a low heat, stirring almost constantly until thick. Remove from heat and lay on a piece of parchment paper. Kneed in the coloring just a bit more and allow to cool for a few minutes.
That's all there is to it!
I have had this recipe for some time, but last week I did see it featured on The Modest Mom blog. And she offered some free label printables so that you can make the playdough, put it in some little containers and then add the adorable little labels to the top!
Happy Playdough making. And you know.... you don't just have to give this to the little's to play with. You can play right along with them! ;) It's a nice bonding experience.....
